This filter actually kills two birds with one stone. Many other waterfall filters don't include filtration media which then needs to be purchased separately. Algreen's filter comes in a comprehensive kit that includes everything that you will need to install the filter right away!
Algreen’s incredible five-action Bio Waterfall Filter is comparable to an all-star basketball team. Each player has a specific role to play and fulfils their duty with amazing results. This waterfall filter comes complete with multiple biological, mechanical, and charcoal filtration methods to allow for a pure and healthy looking pond. Not to mention that this is all backed by a LIFETIME warranty!!!
Let’s take a look at each one of the players.
(1) Two Mechanical (Fine) Filters
With 2 separate mechanical filters, all the debris that the pump transports to the filter will be filtered out.
(2) Biological (Coarse) Filter
The biological filter provides a natural way of removing toxic ammonia (fish waste) from your pond. Your fish excrete waste in the form of ammonia which, in high amounts, can be fatal to the fish. This process is counteracted by the biological filter which is basically the catalyst for the nitrifying cycle. The biological filter allows beneficial bacteria to accumulate within the filter. These bacteria “eat” away at the harmful ammonia to convert them into fertilizer that can be used by plant life.
(3) Two Bacteria Colony Pouches
Your pond needs a small accumulation of healthy bacteria. These 2 separate pouches promote the reproduction of healthy bacteria that is required for the environmental processes of your biological pond.
(4) Two Activated Charcoal Pouches
Charcoal serves to remove cloudiness from your pond water while removing toxins from it that may be harmful to your fish. This type of charcoal is extra porous and has a large surface area. This means that for every square inch of your pond, there will be a million activated charcoal particles for every hundred particles of toxins. More charcoal in the water will not harm your fish. The activated charcoal will actually attract all the toxins until they bind to it. Once bonded, the charcoal will literally eat away and destroy the toxins before they can do damage to your healthy pond.
(5) Mat Filter
The mat filter is a single filter that is manufactured to clean your water and smooth out your waterfall flow. Many waterfalls have a very rough and a bit of a foamy appearance when flowing over the edge. With Algreen’s remarkable new mat filter design, the outgoing water is slowed down, and the flow is softened to give you a crystal clear waterfall. Not only does this filter provide you with an aesthetically-pleasing waterfall, it is also a functional filter as well. It serves as a mechanical filter that reduces the amount of debris that accumulates within the pond.
Algreen provides their consumers the best “bang for the buck”. The five-action filtration team will ensure that your pond stays healthy and looks great at any time of the day. In fact, Algreen is so confident in the quality of their product that they also provide a lifetime warranty for the biological waterfall filter enclosure!

How to Install the
Bio Waterfall Filter
1. Remove all the filter media and rinse off any dust and debris. Replace the filter media back into the Bio Waterfall in the same order it was in. 2. Choose an appropriate location for the Bio Waterfall. It should be high enough to allow for proper drainage. 3. Create a stable foundation to place the Bio Waterfall on. Ensure that the Bio Waterfall is level or slightly sloped to the front so that it will drain properly. 4. Cut the multi-step hosetail to fit the diameter of tubing used (1-1/2" dia. tubing is recommended for best flow). For 1-1/2" dia. tubing, cut the smaller 3/4", 1" and 1-1/4" sections off the hosetail. For 1" tubing, only cut off the 3/4" section. Cutting the smaller sections off the hosetails will increase the flow rate. A hacksaw works best. 5. Attach the bulkhead fitting with the barbed fitting to the Bio Waterfall with a gasket on either side of the pre-cut hole. The multi-step hosetail threads on the outside of the filter box. The water inlet points down into the filter rack on the inside of the filter box. 6. To connect a waterfall pump (sold separately), use kink-free tubing and clamps (sold separately). Connect the tubing to the hosetail and secure with a clamp. With the flat plastic lid that is provided you may wish to use landscape materials to blend it into the surrounding features. |

Bio Waterfall Filter
Operation
The Bio Waterfall Filter has been uniquely designed to have multi-levels of filtration, both mechanical and biological, as well as create a large waterfall. For best results it should be run continuously. The filter rack should be cleaned regularly. Failure to do so may reduce water flow over the Bio Waterfall. |

How to Clean the Bio Waterfall
Filter
Take off the plastic lid and remove the filter rack from the Bio Waterfall and empty out any debris that has accumulated. Remove the filter foams, bacteria pouches and charcoal pouches. Hose off any other debris that is caught in the filter rack. Gently rinse the filter foams in a bucket of pond water. Cleaning them under tap water will kill any beneficial bacteria that may have built up in the foam. |
