Biological

CrystalClear Biological Clarifier, when used as directed, will effectively remove sludge & ammonia to produce a healthier pond environment for all fish & aquatic plants. CrystalClear Biological Clarifier is an all-natural, freeze-dried bacteria and enzyme complex formulated to remove organic sludge. CrystalClear Biological Clarifier is fortified with several billion bacteria colonies per gram and six (6) enzymes all selected and designed for their waste degrading properties. CrystalClear Biological Clarifier has among the highest bacteria counts presently available to the water gardening market today. Most freeze-dried bacteria products tend to have much higher bacteria counts than liquid products because the bacteria is sprayed onto a medium, often a wheat bran product. Liquid bacteria products are formulated in a liquid solution that keeps the bacteria in a somewhat active state. Dry bacteria products remain dormant until they come in contact with water, so the chance for survival in a dry form is greatly enhanced. When applied to an aquatic system, CrystalClear Biological Clarifier will begin to multiply exponentially and will begin to pull out nutrients and harmful wastes from a pond. These nutrients and wastes usually include organic material, fish wastes, dead plant life, leaves and many other organic materials. These "wastes" are, for all intent and purposes, bacteria food. The six enzymes contained in this product will perform the initial work to begin the breakdown of the waste. The enzymes will act as a "saliva" to break down the bulk of the waste so the bacteria can perform their function more easily and efficiently. Once the wastes have been consumed the only bi-products that are excreted by the bacteria are harmless carbon dioxide and water. Another small benefit that the bacteria contribute to the pond is that the pH can be lowered with the release of carbon dioxide in the same manner that fish respiration will lower pH. Nitrifier

CrystalClear Nitrifier is an all-natural bacteria and enzyme based product specifically designed to complete the nitrification cycle. CrystalClear Nitrifier contains special strains of bacteria that will safely convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate via a process known as nitrification. Once this process is complete toxic ammonia has been converted to harmless nitrate which can be utilized by aquatic plants as a nutrient source. CrystalClear Nitrifier will remove some nitrate on an anaerobic level but most of the remaining nitrate will be used by aquatic plants.
Ammonia is extremely toxic in its un-ionized form and non-toxic in its ionized form. This can be controlled by keeping pond water at low pH levels. At low pH levels ammonia will ionize and at levels higher than 7.2 ammonia begins to un-ionize and becomes more and more toxic. Ammonia at high levels will burn the surface of fish scales and gills thereby stressing the fish to the point of death. This dilemma can be diverted by simply applying a good nitrifying bacteria such as CrystalClear Nitrifier. Biologically, nitrogen compounds may be stripped of their oxygen and other compounds by certain types of bacteria which are found in CrystalClear Nitrifier. These bacteria, when they are restricted from access to oxygen, utilize nitrogen compounds instead of oxygen for respiratory purposes and biochemically pull away the oxygen component of the nitrogen ion. The net result of this process (denitrification) is nitrogen gas which is a bi-product of this cycle, thus completing the nitrification cycle. Once the nitrification cycle is complete the net result should be little to no ammonia, nitrite or nitrate levels. As discussed with CrystalClear Biological Clarifier (Dry) earlier, by pulling these algae nutrients and others the algae cannot survive and eventually die off. Once the nutrients are removed the algae dies and the bacteria will utilize the dead and decaying algae as a food source. Nitrifying bacteria will readily colonize on the bottom of the pond and especially on the filter. As the water flows over the filter the bacteria will begin to work and pull nutrients from the water so we suggest (as with the other bacteria products) applying the products directly into the filter in order for the best and most effective results to be achieved. RapiClear

CrystalClear RapiClear is designed to clear pond water by combining suspended particulate (organic material) via a process known as flocculation. This allows all suspended organics within the water column to be attracted together & easily removed leaving the pond ecosystem sparkling clean.
High pond pH and buffering capacity may cause temporary clouding of the water, which should dissipate within a day. For CrystalClear RapiClear to work at its maximum potential, it is best if the pond pH is between 7.0 and 8.5 and the buffering capacity is between 120 & 180. Most ponds meet these requirements.
